Originally sub-titled The Courting at Burning Ranch, Rodeo was first produced at the Metropolitan Opera House on October 16, 1942 with scenery by Oliver Smith and costumes by Kermit Love… The music was written in June, and orchestrated in September, 1942. The composer subsequently extracted an orchestral suite from the ballet score for concert performance” (from the Introductory Note).
