COPLAND, Aaron. Music for a Great City. London et al.: Boosey & Hawkes, circa 1965. 12mo, original wrappers, pp.100.

Hawkes Pocket Scores edition, inscribed on the title page by Aaron Copland, "For P.R. / from / A.C. / '67"

Music for a Great City was derived by Copland from his score for the 1961 film "Something Wild," which was set in New York. Later, a leading orchestra of another "Great City"—the London Symphony Orchestra—commissioned an orchestral suite, and Copland presented them with this composition in 1964. The recipient of this copy was Phillip Ramey, a composer and writer who was also one of Copland's closest friends.
