"THE MOST IMPORTANT CULINARY FIGURE THIS COUNTRY HAS PRODUCED": JULIA CHILD & COMPANY, SIGNED BY BOTH JULIA AND PAUL CHILD AND INSCRIBED BY JULIA TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOOK-OF-THE-MONTH CLUB

CHILD, Julia. Julia Child & Company. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1978. Quarto, original patterned white paper boards, original dust jacket.

Book Club edition of Julia Child's wonderful cookbook accompanying her second television series of the same name, inscribed on the half title to the President of the Book-of-the Month Club: "For Axel Rosin—Bon Appetit and all the best, Julia Child," and additionally signed by Paul Child.

"Long before the rise of Alice Waters, Jeremiah Tower and Wolfgang Puck and without the magic of editing, Julia Child was re-outfitting the American kitchen and re-educating the American palate. In the process she became the most important culinary figure this country has produced, as well as one of the century's most admirable women… Her influence cannot be overstated" (Salon). Her award-winning WGBH series "The French Chef became the longest-running program in the history of public television; it was followed by Julia Child & Company" and this accompanying book (New York Times). Throughout her extraordinary career, "Child had fun. Given to imagery ('the dough should feel like a baby's bottom') and colorful language ('use the electric mixer and go whole hog'), she preached the advantages of a modern, well-stocked kitchen" and a lively passion for fine food (Salon). Wonderfully illustrated with many color photogravures. The recipient of this copy, Axel Rosin, was president of the Book-of-the-Month Club in the 60s and 70s.

Book fine, dust jacket with very light wear to spine ends. A near-fine copy.
