(CARLE, Eric) SUNDGAARD, Arnold. The Lamb and the Butterfly. New York: Orchard Books, (1988). Tall slim quarto, original half beige cloth, original dust jacket.
First edition, warmly inscribed on the dedication page, presentation association copy: “For Bill & Phyllis. From Eric & Bobbie with love. Eric Carle.” With Carle’s illustration of a butterfly above the inscription.
Text by Arnold Sundgaard, with illustrations by Eric Carle. A first edition of this delightful children’s book about a curious lamb that befriends a flighty butterfly, highly desirable with illustration and inscription by Carle. Bill and Phyllis Halloran were close friends of Carle’s; he dedicated The Very Busy Spider to them, and quoted a poem by Phyllis in the book Animals, Animals, which he illustrated. Bobbie is Carle’s wife.
Light soiling to boards, extremely good. Dust jacket fine.
