INSCRIBED BY FRANK CAPRA, FIRST EDITION OF THE OSCAR-WINNING DIRECTOR’S AUTOBIOGRAPHY

CAPRA, Frank. The Name above the Title. An Autobiography. New York: Macmillan, 1971. Octavo, original orange cloth, original dust jacket.

First edition of famed film director Capra’s lively autobiography, inscribed on the half title by him, “For Bob—an old friend—with pleasure—Frank,” believed to be a presentation copy from Capra to noted film producer Robert Blumofe, with over 45 pages of illustrations.

In The Name above the Title, legendary film director Frank Capra recalls his rise from poverty to a career that spanned four decades. “Probably no filmmaker ever dominated an era the way Frank Capra dominated his… Capra was the first to win three directorial Oscars—for It Happened One Night (1934), Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936) and You Can’t Take It With You (1938),” and is perhaps most beloved for co-writing and directing It’s a Wonderful Life (1946), starring James Stewart (New York Times). First edition: with “First Printing” stated on copyright page. Illustrated with over 45 pages of black-and-white photogravures. This copy is believed inscribed by Capra to film producer Robert Blumofe, who was a vice president in charge of production for United Artists for many years, and notably produced three films: Yours, Mine and Ours (1968), Pieces of Dreams (1970) and Bound for Glory (1976), which won an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.

A fine inscribed copy.
