SPECIALLY HAND-BOUND SIGNED LIMITED FIRST EDITION OF BUKOWSKI'S HOLLYWOOD, ONE OF ONLY 150 COPIES SIGNED BY CHARLES BUKOWSKI WITH A SELF-PORTRAIT SKETCH AND WITH AN ORIGINAL SIGNED SILKSCREEN PRINT ALSO BY BUKOWSKI

BUKOWSKI, Charles. Hollywood. Santa Rosa: Black Sparrow, 1989. Octavo, original half patterned light purple cloth, pictorial white paper boards.

Signed limited first edition, number 17 of only 150 copies (out of a total edition of 176 copies) signed on the limitation page by Charles Bukowski with his original self-portrait sketch and also with an original signed silkscreen print signed by Bukowski, hand-bound in elaborate pictorial boards by Earle Gray.

"Charles Bukowski, West Coast poet and patron saint of drinking writers, or writing drinkers, author of the screenplay for the movie 'Barfly,' has written a classic in the take-the-money-and-don't-run category of Hollywood fiction. This is the genre wherein Real Writers who have been seduced into screenwriting (than which nothing is more lowercase) live to tell all shamelessly. The difference between Mr. Bukowski and other literary avengers is that he is neither a martyr nor a fallen angel. In Hollywood, he surveys the absurdities of the passing scene with the complicitous eye of a cast member in the theater of the grotesque" (New York Times). This signed limited edition was released simultaneously with 10,489 paperback trade copies; 900 hardcover trade copies; 501 signed/limited copies; 150 signed/limited copies, each with an original illustration (as here); and 51 signed limited copies, each with an original illustration, intended for presentation and publisher's use. The statement on the limitation page differs slightly from the bibliographer's count (e.g. the extra 26 copies in this issue—likely numbered for presentation—have been omitted). In addition to Bukowski's signature, this copy also bears a special self-portrait sketch by Bukowski on the limitation page. Krumhansl 112d.

A most desirable very nearly fine copy, signed with original signed silkscreen print and author's self-portrait sketch.
