"A TALE OF THE TRENCHES WHERE ENDS ALMOST ALWAYS JUSTIFY MEANS": FIRST EDITION OF THE NASTY BITS, INSCRIBED BY ANTHONY BOURDAIN

BOURDAIN, Anthony. The Nasty Bits. Collected Varietal Cuts, Usable Trim, Scraps, and Bones. (New York and London): Bloomsbury, (2006). Octavo, original black paper boards, original dust jacket.

First edition of a collection of over 30 select writings by Bourdain, together in book form for the first time, boldly inscribed on the title page by him in black felt pen, "To K— Anthony Bourdain."

In Nasty Bits, Bourdain brings together works from publications such as Gourmet Magazine, The New York Times and The New Yorker. "This is inspiring, band-of-brothers stuff, a tale of the trenches where ends almost always justify means… Bourdain is a vivid and witty writer, but his greatest gift is his ability to convey his passion for professional cooking—'this thing of ours,' he calls it, a touch melodramatically, in tribute to La Cosa Nostra. With one eye on the kitchen and the other on the dining room, he never loses sight of how the terrestrial inevitably informs the divine" (New York Times). By the time of his death in 2018, Bourdain had become "an icon of the modern American food world" (Geraci and Demers, Icons of American Cooking, 46-7). First edition, first printing: with "First U.S. Edition 2006" on copyright page; issued simultaneously with first English edition.

A fine copy.
