MINIATURE-SIZE 15TH-CENTURY ILLUMINATED LEAF FROM A BOOK OF HOURS

(ILLUMINATED LEAF). Illuminated Leaf from a Book of Hours. Northern France or Flanders, circa 1475-1500. Single vellum leaf (2-1/4 by 3 inches), illuminated in red, gold, blue, purple, and black inks; handsomely matted and framed, entire piece measures 9-3/4 by 10-1/2 inches.

This miniature-size illuminated leaf is from a Northern French or Flemish Book of Hours, circa 1475-1500. It offers the beginning of the Hours of the Virgin and includes 14 lines of batarde text in black and red. It also features a two-line gilt initial on a filigree blue, purple, and white ground ground. The verso appears to be similar.

Near-fine condition.
