Lovely illuminated leaf from a Belgian Book of Hours, circa 1430, featuring a lovely six-line floriated initial and elaborate fruit, flower, and leaf borders.
This beautiful illuminated leaf is from a Book of Hours, from Bruges, Belgium, circa 1430. The recto comprises 14 lines from Psalm 119, an acrostic and the longest psalm in the Bible. The text is in red and black. There is a six-line initial "B" in filigree blue and white on a gold and flower-filled ground. There are also four one-line initials, two in blue and red and two in black and white. The border spans all four sides and contains berries, flowers, and hairline sprays with tiny white and gold leaves. The verso is relatively unadorned with 14 lines of text in red and black, one gilt two-line initial on a blue and red ground, and five one-line initials similar to those on the recto.
Light rubbing and slightest of soiling. Extremely good condition, beautifully presented..
