LOVELY 15TH-CENTURY ILLUMINATED INITIAL "H" FROM A FRENCH ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT
(ILLUMINATED LEAF). Illuminated Initial. France, circa 1450-1500. Single vellum leaf (3-1/2 by 3-1/2 inches), illuminated in red, blue, pink, white, green, black, and gold inks inks; handsomely matted and framed, entire piece measures 8-1/2 by 8-1/2 inches.

This illuminated leaf is from a French illuminated manuscript (probably an antiphonal), circa 1450-1500. The recto includes a very large letter "H" in blue and pink with white filigree on a burnished gilt ground decorated with leaves and berries. At the edges of the initial, a small amount of red and black text is visible.
Only slightest rubbing. Very nearly fine condition.
