First edition, signed on the half title by founding father and first Prime Minister of Israel David Ben-Gurion.
In 1948 Ben-Gurion drafted Israel’s Declaration of Independence, and afterwards served as the new nation’s first Prime Minister and subsequently as Minister of Defense. “Considered one of the most scholarly heads of state in human history” (New Jewish Encyclopedia, 46-48), Ben-Gurion was also a prolific author, and few were better qualified to tell the story of Israel. The first American edition was published the same year.
