FIRST EDITION OF BEN GURION LOOKS BACK, SIGNED BY BEN-GURION

BEN-GURION, David. Ben Gurion Looks Back in Talks with Moshe Pearlman. London: Weidenfeld and Nicolson, 1965. Octavo, original navy paper boards, original dust jacket.

First edition of this biography of one of Israel's most famous leaders, based on a series of interviews with Moshe Pearlman, signed on the title page by Ben-Gurion.

"From a long life as an outstanding member of a people with a unique destiny, from long experience as a statesman and scholar, Ben Gurion gives us his views on subjects ranging from Jewish history to Buddhism, from politics to standing on one's head. His recollections of the development of Israel toward statehood start in the early pioneering days and continue from close range to May 14, 1948, the Israeli Independence Day. Ben Gurion minces no words in opinions of the leaders with whom he dealt during the British Mandate. In discussing world affairs he makes clear his love of justice and respect for humanity above political considerations—but at the same time he is completely pragmatic in the matter of Israel's survival as a nation. Moshe Pearlman is a sympathetic interrogator, filling in the background wherever necessary… a rewarding summation of the thoughts of a grand old man of the world" (Kirkus). Price crossed out in red on endpaper.

Book very nearly fine, with only slight soiling to rear board. Dust jacket extremely good, with light wear, several closed tears to edges, faint dampstain to rear corner, and tape repair to verso. A desirable signed copy.
