VARDON, TAYLOR, BRAID, HERD, HILTON: GREAT GOLFERS, 1904
BELDAM, George W. Great Golfers: Their Methods at a Glance. London: Macmillan, 1904. Octavo, original olive green cloth, gilt vignette on front cover, top edge gilt.
First edition, profusely illustrated with 268 photographic plates.
An early golf instructional work that uses "instantaneous" high-speed photography to demonstrate the strokes of such masters as Harry Vardon, Harold Hilton, Alex Herd, J. H. Taylor and James Braid. Each golfer is shown at various stages of the swing standing within a square of four feet subdivided into a grid of smaller squares of six inches, so the width of their stance and distance from the ball can be easily calculated. With text contributions by these golfers. Donovan & Murdoch 6620.
Interior fine, a touch of rubbing to spine ends and corners. A near-fine copy.
