“LIGHT IS TIME THINKING ABOUT ITSELF”: WTH THREE ORIGINAL COLOR WOODCUTS BY BALTHUS

BALTHUS, (Balthazar) Klossowski de Rola PAZ, Octavio. Sight and Touch. New York: Limited Editions Club, (1994). Large folio (22-1/2 by 24 inches), publisher's tan cloth with tan morocco spine, publisher's matching slipcase. $2500.

Limited edition, number 127 of only 300 copies of Mexican poet Octavio Paz’s poem “Sight and Touch,” illustrated with multicolor woodcuts executed by the great Franco-Polish artist Balthus, signed on the limitation page by both of them.

Nobel laureate Octavio Paz, whose work the Swedish Academy has said "seems to incorporate, interpret, and reconstrue major existential questions," dedicated his poem Sight and Touch to Balthus, one of the great figurative artists of the 20th century. Balthus reciprocated with three illustrations after Paz's poem exclusively for the Limited Editions Club. The subjects are a female nude, a still life and a landscape. The woodcuts have been printed in color and on handmade Kozo Uwazen paper from Japan. With LEC newsletter laid in.

Book fine, one small mark to publisher's clamshell box.
