Words of Science and More Words of Science

ASIMOV’S TWO WORDS OF SCIENCE BOOKS, EACH INSCRIBED

ASIMOV, Isaac. Words of Science and the History Behind Them. WITH: More Words of Science. Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1959, 1972. Together, two volumes. Octavo, original cloth, original dust jackets.

First editions, each inscribed on its respective title page: “To Robert Esposito, best wishes, Isaac Asimov 28 July 1985.”

A series of one-page essays on derivations and explanations of scientific terms, Words of Science was the first of Asimov’s etymological works, and More Words of Science was the last, published over a decade later and focusing on words that became common scientific parlance after the publication of the first book. Asimov enjoyed these books immensely. “My chief pleasure has always been the origin and etymology of words. My first hundred books include no less than six… that deal exclusively with etymology” (Asimov, Opus 200).

The first volume is fine in an extremely good dust jacket with minor wear to extremities. The second volume is fine.
