FIRST EDITION OF ISAAC ASIMOV’S VIEW FROM A HEIGHT, INSCRIBED

ASIMOV, Isaac. View from a Height. Garden City: Doubleday, 1963. Octavo, original cloth, original dust jacket.

First edition of this book of science essays by Asimov, inscribed on the title page: “To Robert Esposito, best wishes Isaac Asimov. 28 July 1985.”

Asimov wrote monthly essays for The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction from 1958 to 1991, of up to 4000 words on any subject he liked and periodically collected the essays into books, of which this is the second. “I am allowed to write on any subject I choose, and I have chosen them anywhere from pure mathematics to a belligerently controversial view on the social status of women. I am allowed to write in any manner I choose? What fairer approach to writer’s heaven can be desired??” (Asimov, Opus 100, pp. 17-18). “My F&SF essays have never palled on me and they have remained my favorite of all the writing I do” (I, Asimov, p. 255). This collection contains seventeen essays on a variety of subjects.

A fine copy.
