AT BAUMAN RARE BOOKS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 30, 2008 - Bauman Rare Books, the nation’s premier rare and antiquarian bookseller now open at The Shoppes at The Palazzo in Las Vegas, offers a variety of one-of-a-kind premier gift suggestions for college and post-college grads this season. According to proprietor Dave Bauman, whose inventory of rare books and documents from the 15th through the 20th centuries ranks among the most extensive in the world, a coveted first edition of a literary classic, an historically significant book or document, or a book germane to a graduate’s specific area of study is an ideal and especially meaningful gift for the graduate on your list this year. Consider this sampling of books for the 2008 spring graduation gift-giving season:

·         A first edition of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 20th-century classic, The Great Gatsby (1925); $4200.
·         An Anniversary edition (1999) of Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning To Kill a Mockingbird, signed by Harper Lee; $1,200.
·         A first edition (1896) of Emily Dickinson’s third book of Poems; one of only 1,000 copies printed. Only 11 of Emily Dickinson’s poems were published during her lifetime; after her death, her sister discovered 1,775 manuscript poems; this is the last in a series of three books of Dickinson’s poetry edited from the manuscripts; $4,000.
·         Early edition (circa 1843) of Charles Knight’s celebrated The Pictorial Edition of William Shakespeare’s Works; seven-volume set; handsomely bound and profusely illustrated with hundreds of full-page and in-text engraved illustrations; $3,500.
·         First trade edition (1943) of the beloved fable, The Little Prince by Antoine De Saint-Exupery, in the original dust jacket; with numerous illustrations by the author, many in color; $3,000.
·         Samuel Johnson’s A Dictionary of the English Language, (1810). For the word-lover grad; this two-volume dictionary is considered the “most amazing, enduring and endearing one-man feat in the field of lexicography…Johnson codified the spelling of English words and gave full and lucid definitions of their meanings.” $2,800.
