"I HAVE KEPT NOTHING BACK": SIGNED LIMITED FIRST EDITION OF YEATS' AUTOBIOGRAPHY

YEATS, William Butler. The Trembling of the Veil. London: Privately Printed for Subscribers Only by T. Werner Laurie, Ltd., 1922. Octavo, original half parchment, green paper boards, paper spine label, uncut.

Signed limited first edition of Yeats' autobiography, number 851 of only 1000 copies signed by Yeats.

The Trembling of the Veil was issued at a critical point in the poet's life: he wrote the ominous "The Second Coming" (1921), was nominated to the Senate of the Irish Free State (1922), and won the 1922 Nobel Prize. Of his autobiography, Yeats writes in the preface, "I have said all the good I know and all the evil: I have kept nothing back necessary to understanding." On fine hand-made laid paper, with photogravure frontispiece portrait by Emory Walker from a painting by Charles Shannon. Without scarce original dust jacket. Wade 133. Roth 171. Evidence of bookplates.

Interior clean. Spine toned, light edge-toning to boards. A very nice, near-fine signed copy.
