"HOW CAN WE KNOW THE DANCER FROM THE DANCE?": LOVELY FIRST EDITION OF YEATS' THE TOWER

YEATS, William Butler. The Tower. London: Macmillan, 1928. Octavo, original gilt-stamped pictorial green cloth.

First edition of this "peak in English poetry," one of only 2000 copies printed, in handsome publisher's pictorial cloth-gilt.

Described, along with The Winding Stair, as "the greatest poetry of Yeats in his difficult later manner… a peak in English poetry" (Cyril Connolly). This volume contains some of Yeats' most famous poems, including "Leda and the Swan," "The Tower," and "Sailing to Byzantium" (The Modern Movement, 56). The tower became extremely symbolic to Yeats and features in many of the poems contained in this printing. Without scarce dust jacket. Roth 208. Wade 158.

Only faintest foxing to preliminaries, only light wear to extremities, gilt bright. A handsome copy.
