Poster: Convoy Your Country to Victory

“CONVOY YOUR COUNTRY TO VICTORY”: HANDSOME BRITISH WORLD WAR II POSTER

(WORLD WAR II). Poster: Convoy Your Country to Victory. London: H.M. Stationery Office, circa 1941. Original color broadside poster, measuring 20 by 30 inches, closely framed, measures 22-1/2 by 32-1/2 inches.

Original World War II poster depicting British sailors standing under the White Ensign, accompanied by the words: "Convoy Your Country to Victory. Buy Defence Bonds at Banks and Post Offices."

This original 1941 poster shows two British sailors standing on a warship's deck and looking out at sea at a British convoy. During World War II, merchant ships sailed in convoys of dozens of ships as protection against German bombing and torpedoing. Convoys limited the destructive power of German aggression, since the Germans were only capable of destroying a few ships at a time from a large-scale convoy, particularly when armed military ships were deployed to serve as escorts. Without goods from America and Canada brought in on such convoys, Britain could easily have lost the war either by starvation or by lack of raw materials necessary to continue the war effort. Deaccessioned by The Valentine Museum, Richmond, Virginia.

Faint fold lines with minor splits. Near-fine condition.
