WHITMAN, Walt. Autograph postcard signed. Camden, August 24, 1886. Autograph postcard, measuring 3 by 5 inches.

Original Walt Whitman autograph postcard signed, thanking the editor of The Critic for payment on his submission of "A Thought on Shakspeare."

The postcard, written entirely in Whitman's hand, is addressed to "Joseph B. Gilder, Critic office, 20 Astor Place, New York City" and reads: "328 Mickle Street, Camden, New Jersey. Aug 24. Thanks for the $10, which came last Sunday as pay for the "Thought"-Thanks for the slips & for the copies of the paper-came this morning. Walt Whitman." Joseph Gilder was the editor of The Critic, which published Whitman's "A Thought on Shakspeare" in its August 14, 1886 issue. Postcard engraved with vignette illustration reading "United States Post Card" and one-cent stamp. Postal stamps dated "8-24-86."
