Intended to be published in multiple-language editions for the burgeoning 19th-century tourist trade, this stellar and comprehensive collection of engravings of the buildings and bridges that line each bank of the Grand Canal by Dionisio Moretti includes views of the Tempio di Santa Maria della Salute, the Accademia delle Belle Arti, the Palazzo Foscari, Villa Pisani, the Palazzo Pesaro, Ponte di Rialto, Chiesa degli Scalzi, the Palazzo Vendramin, La Pala d'Oro, the Palazzo Ducale, La Piazzetta and the Campanile di S. Marco, the Ponti della Paglia and the Ponti dei Sospiri, the Pubblici Giardini, and all of the other wonderful estates, mansions, churches, plazas, and bridges that can be seen from the Grand Canal. Economist Antonio Quadri, Secretary to the Governor of Venice, published a statistical history of the province in 1826; the two Venetians also collaborated on a separate companion volume La Piazza di San Marco in Venezia (1831). First published in 1828, issued as an accordion-folded panorama. Text in Italian. Cicogna II, 4560.
Plates and text clean and fine; age-darkening and repairs to binding, a few small chips to spine label. An exceptionally good copy of this uncommon work, desirable in the original binding.
