Zlateh the Goat

PRESENTATION COPY OF ZLATEH THE GOAT, INSCRIBED BY SENDAK

(SENDAK, Maurice) SINGER, Isaac Bashevis. Zlateh the Goat and Other Stories. New York: Harper & Row, (1966). Octavo, original gilt-stamped white cloth, original dust jacket.

First edition, presentation copy, inscribed around the half title: “Jessica’s copy of [Zlateh the Goat and Other Stories] from Maurice Sendak.”

Illustrated with 17 black-and-white plates by Maurice Sendak. This, Singer’s first book for children, contains seven tales of Jewish folklore. Published the same year as the signed limited edition. Hanrahan A66. The presentation copy was inscribed to and bears the bookplate and owner signature of children’s book author and illustrator Jessica Krasilovsky, the daughter of popular children’s book author Phyllis Krasilovsky.

Book extremely good, with light foxing to cloth. Price-clipped dust jacket extremely good, with only minor soiling, slight rubbing, and mild toning to spine. A most attractive inscribed copy.
