'THE GREAT GAME OF INTERNATIONAL POKER": THE REAL WAR, SCARCE PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED IN THE YEAR OF PUBLICATION BY PRESIDENT RICHARD NIXON

NIXON, Richard. The Real War. (New York): Warner, (1980). Octavo, original red cloth, cartographic endpapers, original dust jacket.

First trade edition, early printing, presentation copy inscribed on the half title by President Nixon to a leading Pennsylvania stockbroker, "To Howard Butcher III, Who will understand the great game of International Poker described in this volume, From Richard Nixon, 11-20-80."

"This is a struggle of titans," Nixon writes of America's engagement in the Cold War, "the like of which the world has never seen." Published in the same year as the signed limited edition of 2500 copies and a signed deluxe limited edition of unknown limitation. Howard Butcher III was a leading Pennsylvania stockbroker and entrepreneur who helped build Butcher & Singer into the state's largest investment house. He sat on the Board of Directors of the Penn Central when it was collapsed and was sued as a director for securities violations. The Mudge Rose law firm, of which Nixon was a partner before he became president, was involved in the litigation.

A fine presentation copy in scarce price-clipped dust jacket.
