THE SPIRIT OF ST. LOUIS, PREPUBLICATION COPY INSCRIBED BY CHARLES LINDBERGH

LINDBERGH, Charles A. The Spirit of St. Louis. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1953. Octavo, original silver-stamped blue cloth, pictorial endpapers, original dust jacket.

First trade edition of this "rare adventure," a prepublication copy inscribed on the title page: "To Alfred S. F—— with best wishes from Charles A. Lindbergh. August, 1953. Publication date is Sept. 14th."

Winner of the 1954 Pulitzer Prize for Autobiography, this is Lindbergh's riveting account of the first nonstop flight between the United States and Europe he undertook in 1927. "At its exciting best, this book keeps the reader cockpit close to a rare adventure" (Time). The 25-year-old Lindbergh was awarded both the French Legion of Honor and the United States Distinguished Flying Cross for his trailblazing flight. Illustrated with 16 pages of photographs, double-page map of the flight, and mechanical diagrams of the plane. Published simultaneously with a signed, numbered "Presentation" edition.

Book with only very minor sunning to spine and top edge, bright dust jacket with only light rubbing, mild toning and a few minor chips to top edge. A handsome near-fine inscribed prepublication copy.
