LOVELY ILLUMINATED LEAF FROM A 13TH-CENTURY GRATIAN’S DECRETUM
(ILLUMINATED LEAF). Illuminated Leaf from Gratian’s Decretum. Italy, circa 1250. Single vellum leaf measuring 5-1/2 by 9 inches.
Attractive illuminated fragment of a leaf from a 13th-century Italian manuscript.
The text is from the end of the case statement of Causa 32 and the beginning of question 1: in statement of questiones following the case statement, questiones 6 and 7 are reversed from their usual order. This fragment contains the bottom of an illuminated initial (probably a “Q”) with two grotesques attacking a human head.
A lovely leaf.
