FIRST EDITION OF THE HOOVER ADMINISTRATION: A DOCUMENTED NARRATIVE, INSCRIBED BY PRESIDENT HOOVER

(HOOVER, Herbert) MYERS, William Star and NEWTON, Walter. The Hoover Administration. A Documented Narrative. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1936. Octavo, original blue cloth.

First edition, inscribed: "To Benjamin O. Nelson With the Kind Regards of Herbert Hoover."

This book was written by two experts on the Hoover administration. Myers was a Professor of Politics at Princeton University and prepared the State Papers of President Hoover for publication; Newton was a member of Congress from 1919-1929 and Secretary to the President from 1929-1933. This work is based on Hoover's complete files, diaries, and other papers, which he placed at the disposal of the authors, with only the limitations that the authors should not write on non-economic foreign affairs or harm honest individuals in their analyses. It is essentially a contemporary history of the Hoover administration, written with the hope that scholars might be able to learn something from studying Hoover's presidency while the country still struggled with the Depression and other domestic issues. Without scarce dust jacket.

Inner hinges expertly reinforced, slightest toning to interior, original cloth near-fine. A desirable inscribed copy in near-fine condition.
