SIGNED BY SIR EDMUND HILLARY

(HILLARY, Edmund). Photograph signed. No place, no date. One sheet, measures 11 inches by 14 inches.

Color photograph boldly signed by Edmund Hillary.

In 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary, with Tenzing Norgay, established his reputation as the first to climb Mount Everest, the world's highest peak. Although he ascended Everest only once after the initial summit, Hillary had a profound influence on the Everest area, returning each year to work among the Sherpa people. Beneath the image and Hillary's signature is a printed quotation from him: "I was very much aware that we still had to get safely back down the mountain again and that was quite an important factor. I really felt the most excitement when we finally got to the bottom of the mountain again and it was all behind us."
