Vintage promotional recipe pamphlet from the famed La Florida cafe in Havana, together with a black-and-white photograph from the same era of Sloppy Joe's Bar in Havana—two well-known hangouts for Hemingway in his Cuba years.
"La Florida" cafe was internationally renowned as the birthplace of the frozen daiquiri cocktail in the early 20th century; Prohibition sent waves of Americans to Havana in search of alcohol-fueled good times, and the cafe (known to tourists as "La Floridita"), along with Sloppy Joe's Bar, became one of the necessary stops while in Havana. Hemingway frequented both bars when in Havana. With recipes for drinks both familiar (Gin Fizz, Manhattan) and exotic (Fuego Liquido, Pancho Arango). Text in English and Spanish.
