FIRST EDITION OF SUE GRAFTON'S FIRST PUBLISHED NOVEL
GRAFTON, Sue. Keziah Dane. New York: Macmillan, (1967). Octavo, original red cloth, original dust jacket. $650.
First edition of Grafton's first published novel, a precursor to the Alphabet series.
Although Grafton wrote four novels prior to this one, publication proved elusive. Finally, she entered Keziah Dane, then titled The Seventh Day of Keziah Kane, in an Anglo-American Book Award contest. While she failed to place, she attracted the notice of a British book publisher who recognized her talent. Grafton leveraged the interest in the British market to secure publication with Macmillan and print Keziah Dane stateside first.
A fine copy. Scarce.
