Early edition of this “treasury of baseball lore and instruction,” illustrated with nine photographs and 17 line cuts by Lenny Hollreiser, boldly signed on the title page by DiMaggio.

The text of this "instructive and entertaining survey of the game" covers not only hitting, but base-running and position play. In the year this book was published, the "Yankee Clipper" achieved a batting average of .320, an on-base percentage of .396, and a slugging average of .598, with 155 runs batted in, 39 home runs (winning the American League home run title) and 355 total bases (leading the league). The first edition was published by Whittlesey House in 1948; this early edition, bearing a copyright date of 1948, was actually published in 1952. Smith 549. Grobani 9-70.
