SEAFOOD OF SOUTH-EAST ASIA, INSCRIBED BY ALAN DAVIDSON—"GODFATHER TO FOOD SCHOLARS AROUND THE WORLD"

DAVIDSON, Alan. Seafood of South-East Asia. An Illustrated Catalogue of the Edible Marine Fish, Crustaceans, Molluscs and other Sea Creatures of the Region… Followed by a Collection of Recipes from each of the Countries with Additional Information for Cooks. Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong: Federal Publications, (1976). Quarto, original brown paper boards, original dust jacket.

First trade edition of the scarce second volume in Davidson's famed trilogy of seafood cookbooks, inscribed by him, "With best wishes to D— and G— T— after a very refreshing visit to Hannaford House, Alan Davidson, 28 July 1983," featuring full-page map, many black-and-white illustrations and 16 striking color plates.

Seafood of South-East Asia is the second in a trilogy of sumptuous cookbooks by Davidson, "the legendarily learned (and eccentric) former British diplomat and international authority on seafood, a co-founder of the Oxford Food Symposia and godfather to food scholars around the world… His three major works on seafood—Seafood of South-East Asia (1976), Mediterranean Seafood (1972) and North Atlantic Seafood (1979)—combined tireless research with a rich appreciation of the history and ethnography of foods and food culture" (New York Times). In the book's many recipes, Davidson shows how the seafood is prepared locally, and in the profusely illustrated catalog sections, covers hundreds of species of fish, as well as crustaceans, sea turtles and much more. Issued the same year as a signed limited edition in wrappers (275 copies), no priority established.

A fine copy, scarce inscribed.
