EARLY FINE SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH OF WINSTON CHURCHILL, HANDSOMELY FRAMED

CHURCHILL, Winston. Photograph signed. No place: E.F. Foley, 1932. Photographic print, measuring 6-1/2 by 9 inches; handsomely matted and framed, entire piece measures 13-1/2 by 16 inches.

Scarce, early photographic portrait of Churchill by E.F. Foley, signed on the mount in pencil by the photographer and additionally signed in pen by Churchill: “Winston S. Churchill 1932,” handsomely matted and framed.

This wonderful three-quarter-length, black-and-white photograph depicts a relaxed yet somewhat pensive Churchill sitting with his legs crossed and holding one of his trademark cigars in his right hand. Interestingly, the photographer, E.F. Foley, worked primarily out of New York shooting famous American personalities. Churchill, despite his familial ties in the States, spent most of the early 1930s traipsing around Europe, heavily involved in political and peace causes and researching his biography of Marlborough, making this portrait from that year rather scarce and desirable.

Fine condition.
