FIRST EDITION OF BLUNDEN’S ENGLISH POEMS, RETREAT, AND NEAR AND FAR
BLUNDEN, Edmund. English Poems. WITH: Retreat. WITH: Near and Far. New Poems. London: Richard Cobden-Sanderson, (1925, 1928), 1929. Together, three volumes. Slim octavo, original red and green cloth, paper spine labels, uncut.
First editions of three of Blunden’s best-loved works.
Though often eclipsed by more famous poets such as Owen and Brooke, Blunden was one of the finest poets of the First World War. These three volumes of poetry offer a glimpse into Blunden’s life as a poet after the war, eluding to his recovery in the English countryside and his time in Japan working as a teacher. Retreat and Near and Far are both first trade editions; they were preceded the same year by signed limited editions of 112 and 160 copies respectively. Without original dust jackets.
A few spots of scattered pinpoint foxing to text, cloth fresh and fine. A lovely set in fine condition.
