Bemelmans' Madeline series, published between 1939 and 1961, follows the precocious, irrepressible heroine through her various adventures in a convent school in Paris. This, the third book in the series, traces the development of Madeline's friendship with Pepito, the Spanish ambassador's mischievous son.
