“DIDN’T YOU HEAR ME? I SAID I WAS THE GREATEST”: SIGNED BY MUHAMMAD ALI

ALI, Muhammad and DURHAM, Richard. The Greatest: My Own Story. New York: Random House, (1975). Octavo, original half black cloth, original dust jacket.

First edition of this first autobiography of the charismatic heavyweight champion, boldly signed by Ali on the title page.

Ali wrote this classic autobiography, which covers his magnificent career through the famous "Thrilla in Manila," with Richard Durham, author of the acclaimed Chicago radio drama series Destination Freedom. "From 1948-50, Durham used the weekly Destination Freedom to fight the stereotypes of African Americans in the media. His inventive scripts highlighted the accomplishments of black leaders throughout history… Durham's recurring theme of social and economic freedom was a revolutionary idea rarely heard on the radio at the time" (National Radio Hall of Fame). Blockson 8459.

Book with edges of boards slightly toned. Dust jacket lightly rubbed with light dampstaining to top edge of rear panel (visible from verso). A near-fine signed copy.
