Click for More Info First edition of acclaimed photographer Mark’s haunting photo-documentary of Mother Teresa’s work in Calcutta, with 37 photogravures, signed by Mary Ellen Mark. “One of the most important contemporary photojournalists, Mark has produced photographs that often focus on people outside conventional society’s bounds” (McDarrah, 300). By 1985, the hard line between art and documentation had softened, so that these pictures of the destitute in Calcutta, taken in 1983, were acceptable as art, but no commercial publisher at the time considered them economically viable. It remained for the not-for-profit Friends of Photography to provide the audience—with an exhibition and this photobook. Signature crisp. Near-fine condition.
