This profusely illustrated history of the “October Classic,” the annual showdown pitting the best team from the National League against the winner of the American League, covers the years 1903-1987. Beginning with the 1936 World Series, where the Yankee Clipper Joe DiMaggio has signed, more than 120 players (as well as a handful of managers, coaches and even an umpire) have signed this volume at their photographs; 16 of them have signed twice, and another four have signed it three times (nine signatures have been clipped and pasted in). At the rear of the volume, three pages contain the photographs of every winner of the World Series Most Valuable Player award from 1955-87, every one of which has been signed by the winner, with the exception of Roberto Clemente, who died in a plane crash in 1972.
