Click for more info Early edition of this detailed and highly influential guide to growing grapes in the United States, with 32 in-text illustrations, in original cloth-gilt. “Chorlton’s guides to cultivation of European grapes under glass were based on his experiences as gardener to J.C. Green of Staten Island. Chorlton gives a long list of European grapes suitable for indoor cultivation and suggests the American varieties Isabella, Catawba, Diana and Concord for outdoors. This was a very popular treatise and there were numerous subsequent and revised editions” (Gabler G1622). The first edition was published in 1852. Book near-fine, with only minor toning and soiling to cloth.
