The fabled First Folio of Shakespeare’s plays appeared in 1623. This “Special Edition” type-facsimile is beautifully printed on handmade paper, bound in publisher’s full morocco and illustrated with “Indiaproof impressions” of 20 splendid photo-engraved plates by Sir Joseph Noel Paton. Folio (10 by 14 inches), publisher’s full tan morocco gilt, slipcase. $1250 Signed limited edition, one of only 300 copies signed by poet Robert Graves (who wrote the preface), designer Edward Burrett and illustrator Clarke Hutton, with 40 plates by Hutton, beautifully bound by Sangorski and Sutcliffe. In addition to Graves’ introduction, this elegant production includes 40 abstract illustrations by Clarke Hutton, one of the great English book illustrators of the 20th century. Fine condition.
