This photograph of a beardedWhitman seated and leaning on a table was originally inserted as the frontispiece photo for Two Rivulets , published in 1876. With note in another hand beneath Whitman’s signature: “Reproduced by Doubleday Page & Co for ‘Letters of Anne Gilchrist and Walt Whitman.’ The signature is a genuine autograph.” A few repaired tears to mount, just affecting photograph, signature bold and clear.
