Farewell Victoria

T. H. White

“A NOSTALGIC EVOCATION OF VICTORIAN ENGLAND AND ITS TRANSITION INTO THE MODERN WORLD"

WHITE, T. H. Farewell Victoria. London: Collins, 1933. Octavo, original green cloth, original dust jacket. $750.

First edition of this early White novel—a lovely copy in the scarce original dust jacket.

"A nostalgic evocation of Victorian England and its transition into the modern world, as seen through the eyes of Mundy, a stable groom, from the age of eight in 1858 until his death at 83. He experiences two different kinds of love: his young wife, Ellen, leaves him for Foxwell, a gamekeeper, and he remarries at 51… In September 1931, White wrote to L.J. Potts that he had become infatuated with the years 1840-60 and that he was starting a book about them" (Gallix). Gallix A5.

A bit of minor offsetting from dust jacket to cloth along spine. Fine condition. A lovely copy.
