“NO ONE HAS HAD A GREATER INFLUENCE ON PHOTOGRAPHY IN THE LAST HALF-CENTURY”: FLAMINGO, SIGNED BY ROBERT FRANK

FRANK, Robert. Flamingo. The Hasselblad Award 1996. Göteborg, Sweden: Hasselblad Center, 1997. Tall octavo, original black paper boards, original photographic dust jacket. $950.

Scarce second Hasselblad edition, issued same year as first, signed by Robert Frank, commemorating his receipt of the prestigious 1996 Hasselblad Award, issued in conjunction with an exhibit of his work at Göteborg Art Museum, featuring over 50 color and black-and-white images, including four gatefolds, in original photographic dust jacket.

“No one has had a greater influence on photography in the last half-century than the Swiss-born Robert Frank” (New York Times). “‘His pictures have had decisive influence on generations of photographers, painters, filmmakers, critics and writers.’ This was the motivation when the Erna and Victor Hasselblad Foundation awarded Robert Frank, USA, the Hasselblad International Photography prize for 1996. This catalogue accompanied the exhibition, Flamingo, which opened at the Hasselblad Center in conjunction with the ceremony in Göteborg, Sweden, 8 March 1997, when Robert Frank received the award. The selection of the works for this exhibition and the catalogue has been made by Robert Frank from pictures taken throughout his career with emphasis on his later work” (Knape, Director Hasselblad Center). Issued the same year as the virtually unobtainable first edition. With introductory essay by Mikael Van Reis.

A fine signed copy.
