"In the portrayal of childhood, no Victorian artist could combine charm, beauty and gentleness with such style as Kate Greenaway, the undisputed queen of nursery books" (Dalby, 26). In 1883 the first of Kate Greenaway's diminutive almanacs for children was published. "Its gratifying success [especially in America] encouraged artist, printer Edmund Evans, and publisher George Routledge to embark on a regular yearly series" (Morgan Library 177). "Comprised of eight to ten pages, and measuring three inches by two inches, these miniature books featured some of her most accomplished work" (Dalby, 29). Schuster & Engen 15.13a. Armorial bookplate of F.H. Goodyear, the 19th-century New York rail and lumber magnate.

Boards lightly soiled. A very nearly fine copy.
