“Imperial Purple Edition,” one of 1000 copies for subscribers only of this lushly illustrated work about Prince Henry of Prussia’s 1902 visit to America, with 240 photographic plates including portraits and scenes from the Prince’s travels, in original morocco-gilt.

Published to commemorate Prince Henry of Prussia’s visit to America in early 1902, this work was intended to celebrate the strong feelings of friendship between Germany and the United States. This work aims to provide “an accurate and complete literary and illustrative historical account of His Royal Highness’ tour through the United States. To comply with the prevalent taste of the people who figured prominently in the receptions, this has been done in the form of an Elite Edition with artistic engravings and Imperial Purple binding” (preface). Additionally, the book contains 240 folio photographic illustrations of the Prince’s tour through America as well as portraits of the Prince and many other important figures.

Several leaves reinforced at inner margins, rubbing and chipping to margins of a few plates; front cover very worn, edges split. A good copy.
