PHELPS FRIEMAN, Richard. Les Temps Difficiles. Paris: no publisher, 2010. Folio (11 by 13 inches), original blue cloth clamshell box, photographic prints loose as issued. $600.

American-born photographer Richard Phelps Frieman arrived in Paris in 1966 after serving a stint in the army in Germany. After selling his photographs of Paris monuments to tourists for a year or two, he began to work as a photojournalist for a number of Paris-based magazines. The present work brings together his street photography from Paris and several towns in the French countryside from the 1960s through the 1980s, with quotations from eminent literary figures on the verso of each image. Text in French.

Minor soiling to cloth of clamshell box. Photographic prints fine.
