Three histories of France by Alphonse de Lamartine, diplomat and minister of foreign affairs during the Revolution of 1848. Lamartine has been credited with quelling the insurrection of May 15th, 1848, but soon after fell out of favor and returned to literary work. History of the Girondists, is considered his greatest prose work, followed by the later histories of the Restoration and Revolution.

Slight marginal waterstaining to frontispieces, title pages and outer edges of some volumes (not affecting engravings). A very handsome set.
