Ebony Tower

John Fowles

INSCRIBED BY JOHN FOWLES TO HIS WIFE, FROM HIS LIBRARY

FOWLES, John. The Ebony Tower. London: Jonathan Cape, (1974). Octavo, original black paper boards, original dust jacket. $2000.

First edition of this collection of five Fowles novellas, inscribed on the title page to his wife: “For Sarah, John Fowles, 30. 6. 2000, Lyme Regis.” From Fowles’ library.

The novellas include the title story, "Poor Koko," "The Enigma," "The Cloud," and a translation of the Breton folk story "Eliduc." Fowles, noted for his novels The Collector, The Magus, and The French Lieutenant's Woman, was nominated for the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1999. Fowles married Sarah Smith in 1998, after the death of his first wife, Elizabeth Whitton, in 1990. "Lyme Regis" in the inscription is the town on the English seacoast that was Fowles' final residence.

Book fine. Wear to price-clipped dust jacket. A most desirable presentation copy with exceptional provenance.
