W.B. Trites

FIRST EDITION OF BRIAN BANAKER’S AUTOBIOGRAPHY, HANDSOMELY BOUND

TRITES, W.B. Brian Banaker’s Autobiography up to the Age of Twenty-four, Faithfully set down by W.B. Trites. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1917. Octavo, contemporary, three-quarter dark green morocco, elaborately gilt-decorated spine, raised bands, marbled boards and endpapers, top edge gilt. $250.

First edition of this story of a young millionaire and his trials and travails in love and life, handsomely bound.

This work, hailed in a contemporary New York Times review as being exceptional for its “force and general excellence,” tells the story of a young millionaire who finds himself deeply conflicted about relationships, happiness, and even choosing a career. Bookplate of J. Ogden Armour, the meatpacking tycoon and the president and owner of Armour & Co. Armour was heavily involved in other financial interests such as railroads. He also was the inspiration for one of the meatpacking plant owners in Upton Sinclair’s acclaimed novel, The Jungle.

A bit of toning to extremities. A handsome copy.
