Ou va Israel?

Nahum Goldmann

INSCRIBED BY NAHUM GOLDMANN

GOLDMANN, Nahum. Où va Israël? [Paris]: Calmann-Lévy, (1975). Octavo, original stiff paper wrappers. Housed in a custom chemise, slipcase. $300.

First edition in wrappers, French issue, presentation copy inscribed, “To Jane Engelhard in friendship. New York Oct 21/’77, Nahum Goldmann,” housed in a custom chemise and half-morocco slipcase.

With Où va Israël?, Nahum Goldmann fully explores ideas he would later publish in a shorter piece titled "Where is Israel Going?" that appeared in the New York Review of Books (1982). In his Introduction to this volume, Goldman describes Où va Israël? as highly "subjectif, extrêmement personnel" (i.e. subjective, extremely personal), and uses his often controversial tenure as President of the World Jewish Congress and as President of the World Zionist Organization to frankly discuss the evacuation and demilitarization of the occupied territories, the creation of a Palestinian state, and his hopes for peace in the Middle East. Translation by Michel Carrière. Text in French. Recipient Jane Engelhard was a well-known American philanthropist.

A scarce presentation copy in fine condition.
